hematopoiesis, myelodysplastic syndromes, aplastic anemia, marrow failure, leukemia, hematopoietic malignancies, hematopoietic stem cell transplantation
Active research in the fields of hematopoiesis and its disorders, mainly syndromes of bone marrow failure, as aplastic anemia and myelodydplastic syndromes, but also on mechanisms of acute leukemia resistance to therapy, chronic lymphocytic leukemia, molecular diagnostics, including nanotechnology, and gene transfer of hematopoietic cells.
Special interest in immune mechanisms contributing to hematological disorders.

Research Activities
Investigation of mechanisms of marrow failure in myelodysplasia, especially apoptosis, senescence, proteasome fynction, effect of hypoxia and oxidative stress and immune mechanisms.
Investigation of resistance of leukemic cells and leukemic stem cells.
Development of new methods in the diagnosis of hematologic disorders (collaboration with Dr Christopoulos from Chemistry)
Gene transfer techniques (collaboration with Dr Athanassiadou,Biology-Medicine)
